Freeing Yourself from the Status Quo

There was a time when I would “stick with it” because it was the thing to do. You know – “don’t rock the boat” –  “behave yourself” – “don’t draw attention to yourself”. All that did was keep me stuck and confined to living a “safe” life but maybe not an exciting and fulfilling life. I especially notice this happening to my age group who may be “sticking” with a job that no longer works for them, but keeps them safe with a paycheck and benefits. But how happy are they, and what kind of life are they living?

I experienced this myself when I thought I could stick it out for the paycheck and benefits. I actually remember saying that to myself – you can do your last 5 years standing on your head. Well I couldn’t. I ended up not being true to myself and what my needs were and my body and mind took a hit to the point that I finally had to quit to regain my health. Isn’t it interesting that “misery” can make you sick?

So what is it that keeps us stuck?

Here’s my list.

Fear – I’ve always played by the rules and I might fail if I go out on my own

Complacency – quitting my job would make my life scary and uncomfortable

Perceived Financial security – I made enough money working for a boss so why quit (even tho I was miserable)

No risk takers as role models – I didn’t know what it was like to take a risk so didn’t know what to expect

Friends and family weren’t supportive – they might ridicule me for giving up a paying job

Good news! I was able to overcome all of those obstacles – because I got sick and tired of being sick and tired – and have come out on the other side as a successful business woman. I was able to overcome the Status Quo and broke thru to experience joy and fulfillment in my work once more. So it can be done.

 Now what about you?

What things in your life keep you in the status quo?

What are you waiting for?

Are you willing to take a baby step toward lessening the fear of change to enable you to move forward with your dreams?

As a member of Team Northrup, I have a gift for you from Dr. Christiane Northrup. Listen to this recording and find out what she has to say about what “unconscious slavery” might be holding you back from the life you were meant to live.
